Just stumbled across this, Runnin' With the Devil but edited to isolate the lead vocals... gives an interesting perspective on the song and the virtuosity of the vocals (and you gotta love the kazoo): http://www.chunklet.com/images/upload/6/audio_file/Runnin%27%20With%20The%20Devil.mp3
I'd meant to post this much earlier, but it had slipped my mind, this film came through town last month, a NFB documentary on the issues surrounding copyright and remix, with Girl Talk serving more or less as the protagonist. Might be useful as an entry point for the political economy class we have coming up. You can watch the whole thing online here, and remix if you like, the filmmakers put their money where their mouth is: http://www.opensourcecinema.org/book/rip-remix-manifesto-1-meet-girl-talk
And just for laughs, I got this as a forward, perhaps an example of heavy metal analysis without a critical eye (click on image for enlargement):

presentations
Does anyone know if there is an order for our presentations? or are we all supposed to be prepared for this week just in case?

Does anyone remember?
Can anyone remember the name of that dance groove Rob mentioned in the last class? It was a dance that all the cool kids were doing in the North U.S., and Rob was tempted to demonstrate for us, but didn't. It was when he was speaking about how producers can affect the music. And a certain producer got a band to play a new groove just by demonstrating the dance. It was recorded in Stax studios, and was a mix between straight eighths and swung triplets? A mix of early 60's rock band and soul music? I'd like to listen to this groove, so I'm also looking for the name of the song they recorded.
